Istvan Horkay graduated from the School of Fine Arts in Budapest in 1964, received a master's degree at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow, Poland, and studied at the Royal Academy of Art in Copenhagen, Denmark (1968). His work is full of obscure pictorial references. He has evolved a virtual graphic language of his own, and is a master of understated color. (DA)
