JD Jarvis is a digital artist and critic based in Las Cruces, New Mexico, where he works as production manager at KRWG-TV on the New Mexico State University campus. He has an M.F.A. degree in video and mixed media from Southern Illinois University. His interest was initially in video art but in 1994 he turned to still digital art, printmaking, and digital art study and critique. He has won several regional awards for his art and exhibited in Chicago, Albuquerque, El Paso, and Chihuahua, Mexico. In 2000, he received the $10,000.00 grand prize award in the Toray digital art contest in Japan.

Jarvis's art cannot be pigeon-holed. His technique may be described as mixed. He uses a variety of programs, not excluding fractals, 3D renderings, drawn art and photography, often in the same work. His art is busy, full of detail, but alway accessible and focused, in an extraordinary fusion of image, symbol and craft. His images are pixel-intensive. They will not download quickly.

Jarvis's influential writings on digital art have appeared widely in various magazines and websites, including our own MOCA site here, where he is contributing editor. He is co-author of the book "GOING DIGITAL: The Practice and Vision of Digital Artists," published in 2005 by Thomson Course Technology. He is married to the digital artist Myriam Lozada-Jarvis. His exhibit here of 16 images comprises work completed in 2008.
